Natwest and the AVU !

On 26th March I applied online for a select current account with Natwest. I have had a step account with them since 2009. It said I had been approved with a £300 overdraft (asked me if i wanted a credit card but then turned me down).

After the Easter holidays, on 2nd April I got the paperwork in the post to sign asking for a copy of my bank statements showing my wages going in (my wages go into my step account so thought it was a bit odd but sent them anyway). Only got round to posting them back on 4th April, so they would have received them last Friday.

On Monday the new account appeared on my online banking, along with 3 savings accounts (I asked for 1, not 3 lol). I could see the £300 overdraft available and went ahead and trasferred £10 into that account.

Last night got 2 texts saying they were sending my card and pin.

The card arrived today - a purple one :) I activated the card online no problems.

No pin or cheque book as yet though.

So my question is ..... when will i know i am safe from the AVU ?

(I have 4 sub-prime credit cards and a Next account but I do have a default and a CCJ which fall off this year, 1 is May 2007 and other is Sept 2007).

Have they overlooked these because of my faultless step account - have never had a bounced payment or anything and have had £5,000 sat in there for the last few months. This might have helped ?

From experience they only close accounts overnight on the day of account opening.

All purple debit cards will be contactless by the end of April.

Oh typical ! Seems a bit daft for them to send me the old type doesnt it.

Will i need to ask for a new card, or will they automatically send me the new card ?

    Thank you :)

I am working today until 2pm and then wont have much phone or internet access for a week so will pop into branch a week on Monday. Hopefully by then I will know the account isnt going to be taken away lol

I also need to arrange to have the extra savings accounts closed - not sure how i ended up with 3, fat fingers when applying most probably! But really only need 1 ... I have to go into branch to do this I believe ?
  • Hi

Just wondering if someone could advise. If i wanted to re-apply for a credit card now, is it 6 months from the initial credit check when i applied for the account, or 6 months from when the account opened ?

You are advised not to re-apply for a credit card if you've been declined for one in the previous six months. It doesn't matter about any other applications as such though of course they may impact it.
