For a flask the following is cheap and effective.
Save eggshells when cooking, wash and dry in the oven when it's cooling after baking. Crush into quite small pieces and store in a jar.
Put 1 or 2 spoonfuls in a flask with a little water - about 1/3 full - and shake well. Keep turning and shaking the flask for a couple of minutes.0 -
I use a dishwasher tablet and just add boiling water - works a treat on flasks too!0

I'd use a glug of bleach and cold water leave overnight (pour the dirty water down the loo) and wash and rinse a few times in the morning.

My late Dad always said/did this and his brews were ahhhhh. I only use a teapot if I have visitors these days but never used to wash out my old Brown Betty one and it made a lovely cuppa.

When I was a student, a friend worked part time in the Union bar.
When the manager returned from some time off, a few people complained to him that my friend had done something odd to alter the flavour of the beer.
He'd cleaned the pipes out. The manager had never ever done that.0 -
Mum used to leave a steradent tablet or two in water overnight to keep the kettle clean and fresh
An old wives remedy is to boil washing soda crystals in the kettle for half an hour with a couple of peeled spuds in the water (circa 1886)0 -

I agree.
Although.
That might be an opinion based in laziness.;)0 -
Thank you so much!!!!
I bought a teapot at the bootsale for 50p this weekend! The inside was black at the bottom and i thought it was worth the gamble:-)
I came home and tried soaking in boiling water and scrubbed...this got some off......then I tried some bi carb and left to soak and 90% came off but it still had a ring and some odd bits that wouldnt budge......so after reading this thread I have just stuck some boiling water and a denture tablet in the pot.......20 mins later its all floated off:-)
It's all sparkly and new!!!! Thank you!!!1 -

For anyone that does have a dishwasher, we find putting the teapot through the machine every couple of weeks works fine.0
