Electric- power cut - our rights

Ours, and most of the streets electricity has been off since around midnight last night. Whilst some have been temporarily reintstated ours due to our houses location and short distance from the fault is not expected to be back on before 1am Friday. It is a fault with Electricity Northwests equipment.

We have no light or heat in the house, no way of cooking.

What rights do we have with regards to claiming back any expenses, i.e. food as we are going to have to eat out tonight and we had already planned our meals for today (tea is actually in the slow cooker waiting to be turned on).

Thanks

    ask them for a generator
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

You will probably find at some point a letter through yoir door giving you details of how to claim and where from.
It will give you a unique reference for the job

    dori2o,

You'll already be registered as a priority service user, or should be. In addition, if 'medically dependent on electricity' you'll get a genny within the hour.

Tell you what though, if it is an 18hour failure there will be some interesting questions asked!

    Hi guys and gals,

    Thanks for the advice.

    THE POWER IS BACK ON!!!!!!!!

Accoring to a neighbour it came on at about 8.20 so it was off for 21 hours.

Just need to get the house warm now as it's freezing.

    Thanks again.

Not all DNOs are that bothered, some see it as cheaper to pay the £50 than get a genny on site.

I now know where, how many customers suffered an 18 hour failure and why. There were 2 gennys taken to site for some very vulnerable customers.

ENWL does not like suffering 18 hour failures and will connect a genny if at all feasible, which in this case it wasn't.

    Don't ENWL do towables?

Yep & truck mounted as well as having one of the hire companies on call.

50kVA & 100kVA tow, 200 & 500 truck mounted. Sometimes it is difficult to cable connect at some fault locations which is what occurred here
