Barclays Bank Reclaiming Bank Fees

I phoned Barclays on a separate issue a few days ago and I was virtually pushed to downgrade my account from Additions Active...I've been paying a bank fee since 1998! At the time I was told that this was for an interest free over draft, and had to have it I was only 16 at the time. I upgraded 3 years ago when again I was told on the phone that in order to keep my overdraft I should upgrade. So I did and have been paying £15 for the last 3 years.
Anyway I spoke to one of the customer service people who told me that there was no cost for an over draft!
I was quite miffed, i've only been with one bank & I had trusted them
So I made a complaint to which as a goodwill gesture they stated they could give back the last 12 months fees of £180.
But I do not feel this is good enough, I am fighting for my principles and to be honest I feel conned & I feel quite stupid!
Well I am taking this to the FO - i was told by the guy dealing with my complaint that he didnt have to offer 12 months fees & that the FO has generally actually only advised them to repay the last 6 months in cases like this. He said the FO wouldn't be able to help me....
We shall see....

It is a gamble. A goodwill offer can be withdrawn if you go to the FOS as typically they do it to avoid the FOS fee. If you are going to create the FOS fee then there is no reason for them to offer the goodwill gesture any more. So, they could withdraw it.
You have to hope your evidence is strong enough to back your allegations and the FOS rule with you.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I'm thinking of just taking the £180 goodwill gesture...0

I'd take the money, FOS take upwards of a year to deal with your complaint.0
