I would paint or wood treat the fence to give some colour, remove the log edging and just give the lawn a quick going over with a rake or scarifier to check for gravel before mowing, if you are on good terms with your neighbour ask if you can paint the shed wall, give the path a scrub and if you want to add more then get some cheap bedding plants (the smaller the cheaper) and plant up some pots (plastic are cheapest and can be painted with eg car paint to look smarter and more coordinated ) Homebase have some things reduced this weekend and Wilkinsons often have cheap plug plants. Pots can go with you if you want to take them when you go.

That's untidy? Wow, you should have seen my garden, weeds to shoulder height at the end, roses, Holly and Cotoneaster that had been left to themselves, a lawn that makes yours look immaculate, a path laid by a moron, made from flints and concrete, field bindweed everywhere and so on.

Straighten or remove the log edging, trim the shrubs, apply a dark oak preservative to the fence, and cut the grass. You could improve the grass by aerating it, raking it, applying a weed and feed, and cutting regularly. Seriously that is not a bad garden, it is just a bit unloved, that's all, people seeing it would see potential, and not too much work.
