Hi
Can I confess to bieng ignorant re plants, vegetables and growing them, I have to start growing some veggies as my income is now my JSA but what I lack in experience I promise I have is enthusiasm, an eagerness to learn etc.
My first gardening question is Peony Roses, my pal is due to move soon and the Landlord has said she can take some or all of the plants with her so as she is moving into a flat she said to help myself. They are going to demolish the house and build flats:eek:
There is an established Peony Rose starting to pop up at the moment, my all time favourite flower, can I dig this up and rest abolish it in my border?
Also a large Poppy is appearing. honeysuckle and a Rhubarb Crown any advice about lifting and removing these would be most welcome.

dig them up with plenty of roots- plant them the same depths and don't expect much from them this year.
I don't know if a peony rose is the same as a peony but peonies in particular sulk after moving and are very particular about the depth. They say they won't flower the first year after a move- but some contributors may have a magic tip to prevent this.
The rhubarb- you may be able to split to create 2 or 3 plants if you want to. They say if you do that, don't pick any stalks for the first year. Always cut off the flowering stalk as they take the energy from the plant.
The honeysuckle is usually as tough as old boots. If you tuck a long shoot into the ground it will root itself and you have another plant.
The poppy. If it is the large red ones I have moved them a couple of times successfully. The smaller oriental ones I have always failed with moving.
If you cannot plant them straight away put them in pots until you can- and perhaps protect from frost to help them settle in. I am sure they will be lots more advice -good luck0 -
Take the rhubarb as close to immediately as you can.
It's a bit late for moving them but should be ok, especially since it's been so cold.
Note the level of the soil it's in, dig a hole in the new spot and plant it to the same depth. It would appreciate a good helping of well rotted manure when you do so. If it's a nice big crown you could split it for more plants. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Is it too late to plant some garlic in pots in the garden pleaseI love being a non smoker (almost 5 years)

Depends on the type of garlic. I started some off last night in toilet roll tubes and trays. Plant Feb - April.
I have moved rhubarb in the summer. It didnt like it, But covered most of it and keep it watered and the next year it had a bumper crop.
I know they say dont remove any but there was way too much to leave to waste.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
