You really need an expert to look at the system and how you use it. Many of these HA installed systems are totally under-specified (cheap and installed for kick-backs) and will not run cost effectively as the heat exchanger cannot draw enough heat to prevent the electric back up from kicking in. Several HAs have now removed them and the average HA plumber / electrician will not have a clue how they work. Ask around your neighbours to find out how much they use.

EcoDan does not have an electric back-up.

No information is given on useage, model, setup, insulation, radiator size, pipe size, buffer tank etc so hard to offer any advice. Is it a recent install or been there all these years?

They need to be installed and maintained by Mitsubishi accredited engineer.

How well insulated is the property and how large is it? How many hours a day and what temperature are you heating at? How much energy are you using in KWH not £££? Have you run your actual usage in KWH through a price comparison site? Have you written to your housing association to ask for a properly qualified heating engineer to investigate, since they are sending you unqualified people?

If you are at home all day and must have the house very warm because of your medical condition, a monthly bill for all electricity in winter of £200, whilst high, is not astronomical.

It would be impossible to work out how much of that cost would be down to the Heat pump and many people without electrical heating can spend £60 a month or more on normal electricity usage(appliances, lights etc)

    Scotland.?.

Huge problems, EcoDan [biggest UK selling W85 unit] are manufactured there, they are in Scotland terms, a favoured employer. Huge support from the devolved government and agencies in general. Many local authorities [30% grant aid funded] have already installed EcoDan in various models from E7 / E10 to all sorts of variables. EcoDan also had a massive product safety recall [explosion in the W85 unit] in the mid 2010's year.

Essentially the 'green agenda' have EcoDan & Scottish government & local authorities installs in many places - many of which are working out very expensive compared with the old E7 storage system..

I for one don't understand this, if someone offered me a 30% subsidised install I'd jump at the opportunity. At the end of the day the supply of heat & water over 12 months is the only real test, and 36 months later they still have not got it right. Ecodan should be able to win hands down in terms of running costs, in some cases so cheap it should be almost free.
