Charity Shops!!!!!! bah humbug

Clearing out house in anticipation of move on Friday.

Lots of books , mostly very good stuff, some I carbooted on Sunday purely to save packing and moving, started to rain or I would probably have cleared them all.

Gentleman said he would take ANY books I had left if I dropped them off at the charity shop

Animal Charity shop much nearer so I took them there this morning.

Two very strong boxes which I wanted to keep to put my DIY tools and such in.

"Oh no, we can't take the books if you want to keep the boxes!!!!!" says the bumptious shopwoman.

Think she meant she wanted to sort through them and keep the best before shelving them.

Anyone else had that sort of response when trying to give good stuff away?

Brought them home and will sort them for ebay or Amazon after the move.

!!!!!! there was a first edition Graham Greene in there:confused:

well all I can say is that maybe if you do put them on ebay or amazon you can get extra cash for a rainy day. but if you need boxes try in supermarkets etc as they are usually very happy to help.

The boxes were particularly strong ones, I was fortunate enough to get quite a few decent boxes for removal on freecycle, which was why I thought I would be giving something back by donating the books to a charity shop.

Maybe it is me? didn't want thanks or anything, but her manner was such that in future I think I will take spare things to the rubbish dump.

Some are quite rude but other charity shop SA's are lovely. Try again if you're passing or try another shop - it's the charity that will lose out, not the rude SA.

I've had that attitude from charity shops before - very odd indeed. Probably just a stroppy individual.

i think it's a damn cheek that the sa din't take them because you wanted to take your box back, personally i would've said something along the lines of "i'm sure the other chaity shop would be grateful for these books" and made a point to her that's where you're heading.

it's a charity shop. They should be grateful to recieve anything not all people have the time and nice mind to go and donate things

talk about beggers being choosers
