Moving away from RBS, bot sure which bank?

Hi guys,

Not made many posts here but ive decided that its time to change banks and ditch RBS due to a number of things and poor offers on loans, savings etc i get from them. Their only saving grace is the Smartphone App which is excellent.

I am considering a switch to First Direct as i meet the criteria of earning over £1000 per month. Not really had experience with any other banks besided HBOS than my current bank.

Can anyone advise which is best and gives exisiting customers good rates on Loans etc if needed?

Thanks :)

I think most banks give good rates depending on the credit history in the first place, not to existing customers.
IMO, generally there is no point in switching the bank for getting a loan.

For a 'good value' see MSE article: Best Bank Accounts
If you need a loan in the future you can get it from any bank, not necessarily from the one you have your current account with.

Since a smartphone app seems to be important, you might want to read First Direct's mobile app page, noting that it is 'free until December 2013', and doesn't allow you to make payments from the app.

Nationwide, Santander and Halifax all have excellent mobile apps and better rewards/interest than most other accounts.

    That's not true.

FD app for both IPhone and Android allows full, free, indefinite access and allows you to make payments from the app.

I think you may be referring to the old Monilink service which was very limited and always had the threat of charging for future use.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

Have you thought about the Co-operative bank. They too have an app but you can't transfer money or do other things that you can do on on-line banking

Personally the three mentioned above would be worth considering, it depends on what services you like from your bank. All these 3 like RBS offer branch services too.

If you were looking for a loan some banks won't offer them unless you bank with them. Rates these days are personalised and you would get a good rate based on credit history rather than customer loyalty.
