Had Margaret the right idea in staying at the Ritz hotel considering how much care homes costs are for the average person, I wonder is there is much differences between what care homes charges and what hotel charging for dementia suffers.

The Ritz charged her nothing -- the suite is probably several thousand a night normally. Her paid carers provided dementia care.

I have known families dump a parent with (mild-ish) dementia at a health farm for a week or two. That's relatively cheap.

How do you know they did not charge her anything? Do you work there or have inside information?

I read she was funding it from the sales of her books where through he own work she earned herself £20m. Plus her husband who was a successful director at Halfords left her several million.

As for "haves and have not", I personally do not think that is fair as she has paid for her accommodation, paid for the funeral part of next weeks events, never took an increase in her pay from the first year in office. Unlike BLiar and Brown, who made took £159,304 in Prime Ministerial pay, Thatcher refused anything over £25,000. Just think of that, someone being paid only £25,000 to be Prime Minister!!

Oh, she also refused her Prime Ministerial Pension that is £120K a year.

Why so ratty about my simple factual reply to teajug? I don't care whether or not she was charged, but it is relevant to teajug's question.

My source is as good as yours. I read when she moved in that the Barclay brothers had invited her to stay there as long as she wanted to, without charge. And I've read it since.

I do find it very odd to suggest she isn't one of the Haves simply because her money didn't come mainly from her parliamentary salary.

Ah yes, the Barclay Bros (both sirs), owners of the Ritz ( which hasn't paid corporation tax for the last 18 years), Littlewoods and the Daily Telegraph etc..

Its only fitting that she should pass away in one of their beds.

Your information is correct clemmatis, she was a "guest" of the Barclay brothers.

Brassedoff seems to forget that every penny she earned after being PM was by virtue of being a PM. No one would have been interested otherwise. The investments of her husband also make for interesting reading, anyone would think he'd had insider information

And the family has made a minimal contribution to the funeral costs - a few thousand out of the many millions it will cost. I find it odd that someone who speaks up so much for disability rights would think this acceptable - how many nurses could be funded with £10,000,000?

It's so, so boring hearing the views from people who can only express them with tinged jealousy.

Whether a guest or not, what's it got to do with anyone. Have you never had or used a personal relationship? No one can say they haven't down to the lowest form of social intercourse.

As for her husband, had any offence been committed, he would have had questions to be answered by the authorities.

Yet in both instances, they are dead, they are unable to defend themselves.

Red tinted specs make for such boring and jealous views.

What did her son Mark do to be knighted, I only remember him been lost in the desert on some car rally he was taking part in, also for some arms deals in some foreign country saga.

Well it shows how much you know then! Hence her decision in not being made an hereditary peer so he would not become Lord Mark Thatcher.

Why people just cannot accept she did far more good for the nation, but the argument is multifaceted, but none deserve the plain faced aggression that is coming from the majority of those either too young to have been there or if they have, coloured by some mystical belief that she only did harm?
