Hi all, I have plently of credit left for purchases on my card-which has a 'cash' limit of only a 1/4 of the total credit limit. My partners been ill recently & I have found a cracking late deal for this weekend in Spain-only pay day is 10 days away! Does anyone know if I book currency online if it shows as 'cash'-or is there anyway around this? I plan to put all the funds back when I'm paid.

Yes, it likely will0

I think the key is finding a foreign exchange place that does not charge a 'cash advance' fee-this is what flags up as 'cash'. Any ideas on zero cash advance collection places?0
-
It's the CC company that charges the fee, not a "foreign exchange place" (that can charge extra if you pay by a CC, but this isn't a cash advance fee). Why cannot you just pay by the card in Spain? If you don't have any spare cash and any savings, then you simply cannot afford an abroad holiday.0

i can use the card in Spain if needed-just a bit nervous as have had a card 'cloned' abroad before. Grumbler-get off your high horse-who the hell are you to tell me what to do? If you'd read my 1st post payday is in about 10 days so all cleared then.0

Hate to state the obvious, but if you have already reached the cash limit on a credit card and are unable to clear that, it would then appear that you are already living beyond your means.
Time to stop spending, however noble your idea.
Rather than shouting at grumbler, how about learning to deal with your finances without coming here to ask for advice then?
It's not all going to be favourable.0 -
Nifty-the cash advance limit is only very low-I've completely managed all my accounts-great credit score-no missed payments. And how can you say I'm living outside of my means-you don't know me? Just asking for advice on my ORIGINAL query-didn't come on here for a moral lecture(!)-still, whatever floats your boat. Anyone any other ideas on my original question? If not will just use card directly abroad.Methinks some people just want to get a rise from people...ho hum. Always thought this board was a friendly place (!)0

Sorry, you are completely missing the point.
Who takes cash out on a credit card (other than the specialist cards for travel) unless they are in dire straits? The fact that it's 25% of your credit limit means nothing at all. Thank goodness, otherwise you would be spending that as cash and not paying it back in full either.
The fact is that you can't afford the holiday. It's credit, not your money. You don't have any.0 -
Funny I thought Eoros was a statue in Piccadilly circus? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

DB1A, it is a friendly place. The advice that we give is exactly the same as a good friend would give. Think about it. A good friend would not encourage you to spend all your wages and more before you have even received them.
Where are your emergency reserves? Taking cash from a credit card and maxxing out the limit is not a good indicator.
Believe me, the advice here is friendly.0 -

Go to your bank, ask for a temporary overdraft. - Problem solved!0
