new ebay seller

I have never sold on ebay so have no feedback. However I recently inherited some furniture and nearly new white goods and need to sell them quite quickly to clear the house.

I've opened an ebay and paypal account and read up about tips and advice and all the recommendations seem to be not to sell large items without having any feedback. Do you think this will be a problem?

As the items are large I would be selling them cash on collection if this makes any difference. Any advice would be appreciated.

The difficulty with cash on collection is that you may stipulate it in your listing, but you cannot enforce it. Buyers can pay by paypal, which doesn't cause a problem in itself, other than if you are subject of a dispute, you would need to show tracking.

You may find local auction houses or gumtree much more suited to your large furniture than Ebay.

I would buy from a 0 feedback as long as there were loads of pictures and a good description...

and especially if someone is serious about the item (i.e. will pay cash and collect) then 0 feedback doesn't really mean anything as they can always turn up and check out the goods before paying.
  • If your on facebook use your local area selling page to sell them, no fee's and cash on collection that's what I do for large items I find it easier than ebay.

If it's cash on collection anyway, there's no risk for the buyer, if it's junk just walk away.

I would also try to find local Facebook selling pages, in our area there are loads, I've put a few things on ebay recently but tend to sell mostly on FB now.

Many thanks for all the advice. It's difficult to think of everything at a time like this.

I will give Ebay a go and make sure I have loads of pics and a good description as suggested. I'm now more hopeful that my lack of feedback should not totally put people off as it will be cash on collection.

I'll also have a look at local Facebook pages and gumtree for some of the furniture.

    Gumtree is another option.

I agree with the above, I would not use ebay for these sort of items. Facebook , Gumtree or other local ads only.

Buying a few 99p items will boost your feedback - but thats also a well know tactic of scammers.

If its cash on collection - feedback wont matter as much. But if someone bids and DEMANDS paying via paypal - and you say no - they cud neg you and mess up your account before its even got going.
