ive currently bought warbutons wholemeal rolls which is 53% wholegrain and has wholemeal flour and wheat flour. 130 cals per roll.
and wholemeal pitta (lightly dusted with four) that are flame baked and has wholemeal flour (62%). 145 cals per grilled pita.
after doing some reading, i was under the impression that wheatflour is not good for you which is why im looking for 100% wholegrain.
but ill definately try the rye bread if i can find some.
If it's super finely ground flour in the rolls, wholegrain or white doesn't really make that much difference, it's all sugar to the body. Warburtons do have stoneground wholemeal rolls now which would be better. Also check the ingredients for additives, you may find fresh in store bakery bread is better than prepacked branded bread. Flatbreads like pitta are slower digested and absorbed.
There are some good rye breads but read the ingredients. Rye can be very heavy so often rye breads are largely wheat based to make a lighter fluffier bread.
IMO we massively overeat wheat in this country, it's not uncommon to have people eating a 'healthy' diet yet having wheat at every meal - cereal, bread, pasta. I encourage my nutrition clients to have a wide variety of different foods as per the healthy eating guidelines.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
In ASDA? The Polish Bakery brand breads are the most natural and healthy breads they sell though they aren't sold in all areas. They are also made with sourdough (though not a true sourdough bread as I believe they use normal yeast alongside). The bonus is they are some of the cheapest breads in ASDA or indeed anywhere, £1 for an 800g loaf last time I checked xx0
