whats the healthiest bread in asda?

hi

im currently dieting, and ive stopped eating white bread for the past 2 months, but i want to start eating bread again but not the white one.

looking in asda i cant see any 100% whole grain bread? i know you can buy it at health food shops but there too far away and probably expensive.

so whats the healthiest bread (rolls or wraps) that you can buy in asdas (or tescos or morrissons)? im looking for 100% wholegrain that doesnt make you fat and doesnt contain wheat flower as ive heard they make you fat?

thanks (plus you can recommend me similar whole grain full of fibre things i can eat)

    Brown rice, rice cakes, oatmeal, porridge oats, oatcakes (anything oats really in it's natural form), Rye bread (wholegrain) is obviously wheat free. You might be pushed to get wheat free wholegrain bread i think (stand to be corrected) There are probably many more....

    Most wholegrain bread is made from wheat, it just hasn't been milled as much so still has all the grain.

    If you want to avoid wheat you'll need to look for things like rye bread.

    I'm not sure about wheat making you fat, but it's thought that the Chorleywood process that most commercial bread is made by, *could* be a reason why a lot of people find it difficult to digest because the yeast hasn't had time to ferment properly.

    Could you learn to make your own? It's really easy, tastes sooo much nicer and you can use different flours and seeds/grains to make it even healthier.

    Have toy thought about Pittas ? You can fill them with loads of salad and feel like you are having a decent sandwich, with less calories ? It worked for me when I lost alot of weight.

    All bread will make you fat if you eat tons of it!, it depends what you want, if you want 'healthy' then you need to go for any bread that is wholemeal/grain, it won't be 100% as it would be too dense, if you want 'diet' bread then you need to go for something pap like weightwatchers/nimble.

    If you're trying to lose weight but want to eat bread then stick to a small wholemeal roll, or a couple of medium slioces of any wholemeal bread a day, you can incorporate that easy in your diet without it leading to weight gain

    Wholemeal pitta bread is slower digesting, otherwise a granary/ seeded bread made from stoneground flour if you can find one. Most bread is made from incredibly finely ground wheat flour so it absorbs and converts to blood glucose fast, you might as well eat sugar.

    Wheat free 'bread' is generally made from rice or potato flour/ starch, it's absolutely not any healthier and converts to blood glucose just as quickly. Nutritious alternatives to bread include canned beans or lentils, barley, brown basmati rice, Ryvita, oat cakes.

    Fire Fox has given exactly the answer that I would. After being on a bread-free, low carb diet for years and losing more than 3 stone, I started eating regular bread again and the weight piled back on. After a process of elimination I found out that I can eat rye bread, ryvitas and wholewheat pittas (in moderation) with no problems or weight gain so I stick with those.

    Would recommend M&S wholewheat pitta at 70p per packet, they are additive free and made with extra virgin olive oil, def the best ingredients list of all the major supermarket versions. Or make your own :-)

    I low carb as I have diabetes. Sometimes I do want some unsalted unsweetened peanut butter or cottage cheese slathered on something and eventually found this

    i dont eat a lot of bread, but i buy Allinsons high fibre bread for everyone. It is a white bread wiht added wheat fibre and has 3.3g of fibre in each slice

    thanks all. i think ill try and find some rye bread.

    ive currently bought warbutons wholemeal rolls which is 53% wholegrain and has wholemeal flour and wheat flour. 130 cals per roll.

    and wholemeal pitta (lightly dusted with four) that are flame baked and has wholemeal flour (62%). 145 cals per grilled pita.

    after doing some reading, i was under the impression that wheatflour is not good for you which is why im looking for 100% wholegrain.

    but ill definately try the rye bread if i can find some.
