From those readings, the KW used is correct.

As for the cost, bearing in mind you have 2 periods of the higher charge - one per year, the UNIT cost for that amount of power works out at £2021.98 - then theres VAT at 5%, so the total cost is £2123.07 by my calculation.

If you have paid £1000 already, your going to owe them around £1123. This is a rough ish calculation - if there are more than 2 periods at the 8p rate, then it will be higher. If they are including the last 37 days as well - then £1400 could well be bang on the money - if you pardon the pun.

** Edit. Didnt see the prices include VAT - so its nearer £1021 you owe.

Are there any other charges on top?

As a side note - you can totally ignore the average use. Everyone is different. You have heating on 6-10 hours per day. Average is a lot lower than that. You use Gas to heat water for showering - many use electric showers. Some use electric appliances for cooking, both oven and hob where as you cook on gas. There is no such thing as average except as a very very very loose guide.

Oh - also with regards the average - thats over a year, so the £67 average is still paid in the summer when you use very little - making up for the high use during the colder months which can easily be double that. Were in a very cold spell and have had a cold winter - last years winter was also very cold. Your period covers both winters and only one summer - so your bill will be higher than the average anyway (no 2nd summer to offset the 2nd winter) - also Not sure if this is taken into account with "average" figures.

    So £95 per year plus £1835 - about £2000.

Are you sure you have already paid £1000 for gas alone?

£1000 per year is only £200 more than the £807 average - 25%. For an average to be average someone has to use more - who more likely than someone who is blithely paying only £55 per month and not paying attention to their meter?

Plus you are paying 28% more than the cheapest direct debit tariff - 4.5p rather than 3.5p (though prices may be tighter now). The expense of paying standard tariff prices.

Note that you are probably spanning a price increase - check earlier bills for previous prices to see if you should ask to recalculate the bill to accommodate the price change.

Long story short, lived in my home from oct 2011 to present. 3 bed semi detached. Heating on approx 6 hours on a week day day and approx 8-10 at the weekend if we are in, 1 shower each a day plus normal use of gas hob.
Our gas bill has been estimated from the first actual reading in oct 2011 and it has just been read for the first time since.
British gas are claiming in this time we have used 40900 kwh.
Personally I can't see this being correct and think its a lot??
Spent over an hour on the phone today with no joy and being told basically this is the bill pay it.
Does anyone this amount is a lot /normal/not enough???

Your big energy guzzlers are heating and how water, forget the hob. Six to ten hours heating a day is excessive and far more than the average household, you will use absolutely loads especially if you don't moderate the ambient temperature or have a poorly insulated property. Put another layer of clothing on, turn the thermostat down to 18-20C, electric underblanket on your bed, fleecy blanket on your sofa and don't heat rooms that are not in use.

It's down to you to check your bills each time, read the meters regularly, pass the readings to the supplier and then moderate your use accordingly. BG only have to read the meters every two years. It's also down to you to ensure you are on the best tariff for your use, standard is usually the most expensive - use a price comparison site.

Spam post has been removed but unfortunately your quote still gives details. Perhaps you could amend please.

I don't think that anybody is going to follow that link! Not the most subtle piece of spamming ever...
