Gas mains work broke my boiler

I can understand OPs frustration. Fact is that there are lots of old pipes that need replacing. Many have been in the ground since the thirties. They are often well past their use by date.
It is quite disruptive and sometimes the street can look a bit like the Somme on a winters day. Holes everywhere,no gas, piles of mud and vehicles rumbling everywhere.
Its a necessary evil and the boys and girls doing the work will no doubt be doing their best to make it all run as smooth as possible.
Thnik of them in this weather down holes caked in mud,wet and cold..not nice.
The old metal pipes will be replaced with nice new plastic pipes. This ensures greater safety and integrity,no corrosion of course and better flow rates/less pressure loss.
All in all a better deal.
It is not unknown for older boilers which rely on thermocouple flame failure devices,to be difficult/impossible to relight.
Its simply because either the pilot light is dirty or the thermocouple is worn out.
Some day soon, the teams will disappear, normality, peace and calm will return and everyone will be left with a nice new safer network at no upfront cost to them.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
