Hi
I tried to return some clothes to Primark with a bank statement not receipt. But they would not accept it as their policy states you must have a receipt. I thought you only have to have proof of purchase?

On the BBC website, the Watchdog part it says that a bank statement should do. (can't link as not enough posts).

Why were you returning the goods?
If they were faulty, a bank statement should suffice (although you can run into problems if there were several items as part of a large transaction). However if its because they dont fit or you've changed your mind.....they can insist on a receipt if that is what their returns policy is.You keep using that word. Was the item of clothing faulty?
If not, you are returning them under the stores returns policy, for which they can stipulate any condition they like. If they insist on a receipt, you will need a receipt. Bank statements etc are only acceptable if a store accepts them in their policy or you are returning as per your statutory rights.0
