Proof of purchase?

Hi
I tried to return some clothes to Primark with a bank statement not receipt. But they would not accept it as their policy states you must have a receipt. I thought you only have to have proof of purchase?
Thanks in advance

On the BBC website, the Watchdog part it says that a bank statement should do. (can't link as not enough posts).
I have used a bank statement before without any problems.0 -
Thank you. I might ring head office, I only wanted an exchange but they wouldn't even do that.0

Why were you returning the goods?
If they were faulty, a bank statement should suffice (although you can run into problems if there were several items as part of a large transaction). However if its because they dont fit or you've changed your mind.....they can insist on a receipt if that is what their returns policy is.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Was the item of clothing faulty?
If not, you are returning them under the stores returns policy, for which they can stipulate any condition they like. If they insist on a receipt, you will need a receipt. Bank statements etc are only acceptable if a store accepts them in their policy or you are returning as per your statutory rights.0
