BT Late payment charges

I know for many many years people paid more for line rental if they didn't pay by Direct Debit. All that has changed recently is the price has increased by 50p for not paying by direct debit, and they have dropped their line rental down from £12 to £11 and now instead of giving you a DD discount, they surcharge you for not paying by DD, even though it amounts to the same thing, some people have become unhappy. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

Now according to BT, there is no getting out of it. Either pay £4.50, on top of the already scandalous charges, or change.. but I cannot change in time to pay this bill, as it states that on my online bill. So consider this. MILLIONS of BT customers @£4.50 a time = another few hundred million in BT coffers. Is that so they can change the name of their company to Outreach 2. Anyway I have just opted to change my provider to the Post Office. If it wasn't for my broadband, I would choose not to have a landline at all. I use my mobile for most calls, cos its cheaper. £15 per month for £90 worth of calls. Sorry I am rambling a bit now, but I am furious with BT. Feel a bit better now tho.
Why are you annoyed with them now because they have increased the fee by 50p a month , when presumbably for some time you have been happy to pay the £1 per month extra for not paying by DD.
Its not a great idea to move your line rental from BT for a number of reasons.0 -
Big mistake charging people for paying bills on time if you don't use the one option BT wants you to.
Yes we have always paid more as DD got a discount, but a discount is a discount a charge is a charge.
Must be a reason they never increased the discount and decided to alienate loyal customers or was it a corporate mistake?
Must have looked good on paper.
Sorry for off topic rant, but I am still angry over it. I will be better in a few weeks when the bill comes and its well below £20 as it's not been that low in years. It has been in the 100's and I am talking a month not a quarter.0 -
Even though it does amount to the same thing for those who pay by DD, I have always preferred to have a discount. Though I have always paid by DD as I am too lazy to have to worry about paying on time, plus I prefer to save money.
I told Virgin this, at one time with Birmingham Cable phone line rental was £6 per month (when BT was £9.25) and you got a discount of 50p for paying by DD. Then slowly the line rental went up and instead of a discount you are surcharged, now £5 surcharge.
People don't like surcharges and can't understand why BT switched from a discount to a surcharge, other than to make the headline charge for line rental lower. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Those who are fed up with these ridiculous 'pure profit making' charges (they never used to charge these fees!) should visit fmotl.com
There is ANOTHER WAY!
For a start, try ringing up BT and asking to see the contract you signed that agrees that you would pay these charges...0 -
Signed utility contracts are a thing of the past. Verbal contracts and online T&Cs are now the norm.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
