Just had the Halifax on the phone to me RE my current account and the amount I owe them.
Perplexed to the man on the phone I said that around 5 months ago I paid a lump sum into the account to clear it and asked that it was closed. I did not hear anything so I assumed this was done.
However the man on the phone has just informed me that a "charge" came out shortly after I cleared the account, which I did not know about, and since then the account has been accruing unplanned overdraft fees, to the tune of £311!!
Could I pay £195 now he said to me, which I could not as I dont have that money lying around, in fact I have £50 to last me the next 2 and a half weeks!
I basically told him whatever he wants from me he can put in writing and send to me and Ill see what I can do.
Ive also just typed up a claim to reclaim those charges using the template letter on here. Ill just copy and paste here what I wrote on the "reclaiming bank charges" forum here;
"Ive just put in a claim to Halifax as it now seems I am stuck in their cycle of charges and now they are taking up to £100 a month off of me
I also spoke to a very rude and unhelpful member of their telephone banking team who informed me that "I need to straighten myself out" to which I automatically started crying, not crocodile tears at all, just the fact that I have worked so hard and made them a lump sum a few months ago which has clearly made no difference at all. Ive never been spoken to with such disrespect in my life from a bank

This is dreadful. YOu should def complain about the way that person spoke to you. It puts you off wanting to phone anyone ever again!
I had this when I was a few years younger, I rang the bank to tell them to stop putting charges on charges because I obviously couldnt afford it and the bloke went on a rant at me and actually asked me how I could have a mobile internet dongle when it appeared I couldnt keep up with my bank account! He sounded like my dad and I told him so then put the phone down, I was fuming!!on the road to recovery..:o0 -

Definatly put in a complaint about the person you spoke to who was rude. Was it a British call centre and if so could you work out from the accent which area it may be?
I know someone who works in banking call centres (different one) and if they are complained about they do get ripped apart and lose bonuses/rating! This is a big thing for them as it loses them alot of money.
Really sorry someone spoke to you like that and i genuinely hope you managed to get these charges knocked off.0 -
If the account was not clear, you still should have been receiving monthly bank statements.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Thanks everyone, Ill definatly talk to them about the man I spoke to, I also work in a call centre and if it works the same way the person I spoke to should have put notes againest my account so hopfully he can be tracked down!

Back in 2009 I paid in enough money to cover what I owed Halifax plus the remaining interest that was due (so I was told) and thought that was the end of it. Fast forward to a month ago, I checked my credit report and realised £1.xx interest was added to my account after I paid in £49.81 back in 2009. They had been reporting late payments on my account from November 2011 to present.
I wrote a letter of complaint to Halifax, they've removed all adverse markers from my credit report and are sending me a cheque for £50 to apologise.What will your verse be?

Did you pay in enough money to cover any interest that was due that month? If so, I might be able to help you get all charges dropped.
