Ripped lino/vinyl? Help!!!

We installed lino (sheet vinyl) in our kitchen/diner in Dec 2012. It is a large rm, 6.5m x 3m (and a small area where it is almost 4m wide). It was a nightmare to lay it - being such a large piece of vinyl and having a peninsula in the middle of the rm. However we did it. We did not stick it all down - but it is tucked under the legs of the units.

We have noticed that it has ripped/torn and has indents in it everywhere. It was not cheap. It was from Carpet Right. I am not sure what I can do about it? It is really not good quality and I am not sure how it has ripped.

AFAIK the technique is to lay then glue at the edges to the subfloor.

Thanks you. It has been stuck in one area, its not moving though so this is not the problem
  • Should I complain to Carpet Right? It does not seem right that it is so badly damaged a few months after fitting it

    What is it laid on?

You'll be lucky to get them to do anything about the indents. It looks like a Stiletto or similar has pierced it.

We have cushion floor type vinyl which was laid by previous owner so guessing 3-4 years old, I suspect laid on top of original floor. Looked alright 2 years ago when we brought the place but we had 2 dogs and 2 cats running all over it.
Theres indents, marks, scratches and nicks etc so when we get the new kitchen fitted it will be a ceramic tiled floor as this should last better.

You can't really complain to carpet right unless you had it installed professionally, which it doesn't sound like you did.

Vinyl/lino is also susceptible to being pierced, by large heavy pointy or sharp objects, or if you drop something sharp and/or heavy

    Exactly my initial thoughts too.

But was it absolutely flat across the whole area, all cracks and holes filled, all high points ground off? The hole/indentation in your first image implies that there is a hole/indentation in the concrete underneath. All it takes is a point load - even a chair leg and you've gone though the vinyl.

I don't think you will get anywhere complaining to the shop TBH.
