First Direct Credit card.

Firstly some great advice here on the forums.

Second, I have a 1st direct account.

Using the Internet banking under credit card it says;

"From the information we hold, you are eligible for a first direct Credit Card"

I completed the extremely short application and it then said "application accepted"

At the risk of sounding stupid, hence not calling them, does that mean I was approved or just the application is received?

    Probably just that the application is received. You should certainly get some further confirmation, in any case.
  • Thanks.

    It's my first application for a CC and, I suppose as they hold my information, it was literally two or three questions so was rather confusing as I was expecting to give a lot more info.

    They'll hold information that you've previously provided (e.g. when applying for your 1st account) such as employment/salary details and information from how you conduct your 1st account.

    Might be worth giving them a call on 0113 2345678, they should be able to tell you the score.

    Check your secure mail with FD, you'll get an email from them before you get anything in writing.

    When I got that message last year I applied and got the same response. Paper work and cards followed within a week. Also they did not conduct a credit search on Experian or CallCredit (I didn't check Equifax). They seem to base this decision on your history with them primarily, although I believe HSBC/First Direct are one of many banks which subscribe to feeds from the credit reference agencies so wouldn't necessarily have to carry out a full credit search.
  • Thanks I called them this morning, it was a approved.

    I have had the account for just shy of a year so I guess they should know how I manage my money. lol

    I have an HSBC account and was told by telephone banking I was eligible for a credit card. Anyway I applied later online and it gave me an immediate decision of YES.
    But I subscribe to Equifax and they had done a full credit check with Equifax;)

    They have to carry out a credit check to assess a new application like this. After that they can use regular credit report monitoring to help manage the account on an ongoing basis.
