French Freedom in administration

Just got home from work to find a letter from Begbies Traynor administrators stating that French Freedom holidays has entered administration. Not the best news, and although French Freedom are apparently covered by ABTA, and we booked our holiday on a credit card, knowing how these things go I doubt it'll be plain sailing to get our money back. And I've still got to tell the kids that unless/until we get our money back there certainly won't be any other holiday booked this year :(

Any advice from anyone about how best to pursue this would be gratefully accepted.

  • I got the same letter. No idea what to do, but we will be calling ABTA in the morning.
  • Hi - I also got the letter. Called ABTA who were helpful and said that I should expect a full refund within 7-10 working days. I had booked my ferry separately and so cancelled this immediately which meant I lost £25. My holiday for 2 weeks in the vendee was costing around £830 at the start of July though £400 of that was my ferry cost. Today I got exactly the same dates and similar ferry package/mobile home with Matthews Holidays so I would try them as a first port of call. Another company I have used before and found really good (they will beat the other tour operators price by a long way) is Let's go to France.
    Good luck!

Thanks for the updates. We booked ours on a credit card so I'll try and get the refund back through them. I might ring ABTA tomorrow as well though. I think we'll have to hold fire rebooking until the refund has been paid (assuming it is of course), but thanks for the tips.
