Child's Account - does anywhere accept 'known as' names?

A slightly unusual situation which I haven't found an answer to yet.
Child has their birth surname (Smith). Child Smith wanted to take on mother's surname (Jones) because mother has reverted to her maiden name.
Child's father (Mr Smith) refused permission to change permanently (by deed poll), but allowed the child to use Jones and be known as Child Jones at school and doctors, dentists etc.
Child Jones is therefore Child Jones to everyone apart from the Smith family, including on medical records. However, on the passport and birth certificate, is Child Smith.
Now Child Jones wants to open their first bank account. Does anyone know of a bank which will allow her to use both surnames? Child Jones has already received cheques made payable to Child Smith and Child Jones (from each side of the family).
Until a deed poll can be done, what would you do? Would it be possible to open a bank account as Child Jones and another as Child Smith using birth certificate for one and medical record details for the other? No fraud is intended, Child merely wants a bank account in each name until the name change can become permanent. The sides of the family do not speak and the Jones' do not want to use the Smith name - because no one in the family knows Child Jones as Child Smith!
I wondered if a bank would accept Child's name as Child Smith Jones (two surnames) and would accept cheques made payable to either. Does anyone know of a sympathetic bank who would do this? Until obstinate father accepts that child doesn't want his name, the poor thing is stuck flitting between two names...

From just having a quick look to open a child current accounts it seems to depend on child's age and on the form of id plus parent must bank with them.
proof of name can be a bus pass. I wonder if the child uses a certain surname in school if a letter from the head/ teacher with the child name and address would be enough?
Examples:

Not of help but I have the same predicament. I kept my name and child has both parents surnames but is only known as mine except on passport and birth certificate.
Halifax would only open in the whole surname.0 -
Thanks both.
I spoke to HSBC today who said their policy was one name only and they wouldn't allow cheques to the other name to be paid in. I bank with them but they would make child have Child Smith.
I'll check Halifax out just in case...0 -
I think that the child might need to accept that until she can change it, her legal surname is Smith?
Open the account in the Smith name and pay in the Smith cheque?
Advise the person who drew the cheque in the Jones name that unfortunately it cannot be banked - ask how he/she would wish to proceed- e.g. you destroy the cheque and he/she makes a faster payment to the child's new bank account?
Otherwise the donor might send a cheque drawn in the parent's name with a letter requesting that the parent passes on the money to the child?0
