resigning president/ex officio

If a president of a club/society resigns, does he/she still have a right to the ex officio title?

  • You would need to refer to the society's articles of incorporation to find this information.

There is no mention of a resigning committee member, just that the leaving president shall be ex officio for 12 months on the committee

Then it is down to how that clause is interpreted - "leaving" to my mind covers resignation as well as end of term, but others may disagree.

Would anybody object to them using the title, does it bring any privilege with it?

it gives them voting rights on the committee quorum as there is only 2 committee members left, plus ex officio

Is anybody objecting to this? If they are, the matter would need to be referred to the governing body/ regional committee. If no such body exists the issue could be taken to court, but the time and cost involved in doing so would be disproportionate to the aim.
