Online Fixed Price Energy May 2013 - when to switch?
Options
I'm sure like others, I am on the Scottish Power Online Fixed Price Energy May 2013 tariff which ends on 30th April.
The question is when should I start the process of switching to EDF to take advantage of their Blue+ Price Promise February 2015 tariff? I would like to switch as soon after 1st May as possible, but I don't want to risk incurring charges from SP.
How long have people taken to transfer to EDF? And should I take the 12 day cooling off period into account, or can this be shortened?

I have a similar question to Smoggie69, I'm on the Npower Go Fix 11 tariff which ends on May 21 2013. Is it too soon for me to start the process of moving to the EDF Blue+ Price Promise February 2015 tariff without incurring early exit fees from Npower ?
thanks0 -
That's great. There's £40 cashback on the Cheap Energy Club site at the minute as well.0

I've just done a live chat with someone from EDF and asked them about switching. They said that I may need to check if Scottish Power will apply the termination fee upon the supply leaving them or upon EDF making the application, after the 12 day cooling off period, for the supply.
Looking at SP's T&Cs they state "The Agreement shall end on the date a new Gas Supplier is permitted by the relevant supply industry processes to supply gas to the Premises.” The Electricity has similar wording.
Does the date mentioned above mean the actual date EDF take the power on, or the application date, after the 12 day cooling off period?0 -

Same question for me. Particulary as the offer I want to book this tarrif via may end on 30th April.
Is it always a bit of a guessing game when to apply for a switch ?0 -
I too am looking to leave Scottish Power for EDF Blue tariff. I spoke to SP regarding the possible exit fees and was told they will apply. I relayed part of the email I was sent by SP
"[FONT="]If you notify us that you wish to change supplier before 1st June 2013 and if we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days, we will not move you to our standard prices or apply a cancellation charge. If you have an outstanding debt, we may object to your supply leaving us, but we will give you time to pay the debt and leave us without incurring the increased prices"
The SP person then said it looks like 13th May will be the cutoff point. Any requests to move supplier received before then will incur a charge but between then and the 1st June will be charge free.
I don't really wish to leave SP as billing for the past 6-7 years has been excellent, but with a proposed £10 per month saving I cannot ignore matters.

No. Only if you switch before 1/6-the switch date is the day your contract ends. 21 days prior is generally quite OK, with the average switch taking 4-5 weeks. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the comment MACMAN. Unfortunately I still need to leave it another week or 2 before applying - can't afford to be hit with the SP £50 cancellation charge.0

I will be leaving SP and moving to SE 2 yr capped. I will be paying the same as SP quote but my account will be credited with £100 after a few months. I am dealing direct with SE as the unit prices are cheaper than those quoted on the comparison sites.
The SE lady I spoke to is calling back 1st May to start the transfer process and timing it so that I don't incur any fees.
If you have an online acc. with SP beware when you tell them that you will be leaving. Things may have changed but the last time I left they immediately blocked access to my account. I had wanted to make a card payment to make sure that I didn't have an outstanding balance but wasn't able to do so. I thought this was wrong as all the time I am a customer I should have access to my online account. Download any bills you think that you may need in the future as you may not be able to once SP hear that you want to change supplier.
As I said, SP may no longer do this but I have already made sure that I have copies of all bills just in case.0
