Find my landline number?

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered before but I haven't been able to find an answer so far....

I moved into a new rented flat yesterday, when trying to get quotes for broadband etc I need to provide the landline number which I don't know, I've left a message with the agency but I was wondering if they don't have a record of it where I go from here? I've tried plugging in a phone and calling 17070 but as it's a disconnected line I still just get the beeping tone.

Any advice very appreciated!

It wont have a number , you need to get connected , with a provider , then get your own number
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
  • That makes sense. But when I get online quotes for phone and broadband (so I can get the cashback:D) they want to charge me an extra 50-60 quid for installing a new line... which I obviously don't need!

    Thanks again

You will probably have to pay for a new line, i.e. a new connection as you are a new customer in a new house. It sucks but that is what I have had to do with every place I have ever rented.

Maybe look at Virgin as you don't necessarily have to have a landline connected with them if you only want broadband, unlike the great BT rip off!

Unfortunately there is a cost associatied with reconnecting a line. Some providers may absorb this if you sign up for a long contract, for example if you sign up for BT broadband for 18 months it's free to connect the line.

You don't need a landline from a technical point of view, but their prices are such that you pay far more for broadband if you don't take their landline, so if you have any use for a phoneline at all (for inclusive calls etc.) you may as well have one. They also have 18 month minimum contract on broadband.

Well I didn't see the 'you don't need to buy a landline off us' option when I last moved otherwise I wouldn't have!
