Stick or twist with EDF blue

Options
I'm currently on the Blue+promise until sept 2013 which is the cheapest tarrif available still. I'm interested the feb 2015 fix but currently this is 14% more than I'm paying though because I guess I'm losing the pre hike current fix and jumping to a longer one so that's to be expected.

Is it worth the switch now to beat possible hikes this winter and next? Or should I wait until september and will a similar deal likely be available then ?

Interesting Question - Do you pay 14% extra on the deal you have now till Sept, or hang on till your deal expires and hope something better comes along

Bearing in mind that next September is the start of a new winter and the straws in the wind indicate that prices are only going in one direction and that's up, I'd got for the new deal, but not quite yet
We are on the verge of better weather and paying 14% extra on Summer bills will be a lot less than Winter bills

I'm on the EDF Price Promise till April 2014.
If I change now I will be £137 worse off (9%) according to EDF. They base it on me staying on the current tariff till it ends in April 2014 and then switching to their Standard Tariff till Feb 2015.
    Any advice/thoughts welcome.
    Thanks.

Last time I changed from an old Blue tariff to a new one I managed to get some cashback (think it was £15) does anyone know if this is possible this time.

Im on the Online Fixed Price Energy April 2014 from Scottish Power. The energy club said I will be £7 a year better off with EDF and the fix is until Feb 2015.

Is it a no brainer to change? We only went to SP in December.

Hi emesee - Like you I'm also on the Blue April 2014 deal and for us it's a more difficult decision.

Boyar is fortunate in that his deal ends this coming September, so if he changes to the 2015 fix in the near future it will carry him through two winters at the cost of 14% extra over just one summer - It's certainly not worth you or I changeing when it would cost 14% extra over a full years billing, best to wait till early Spring 2014 and see whats on offer

I am tempted to change from my fix with no penalities SP April 2014 to Feb 2015 EDF. According to the comparison site I would be £44 worse off a year but would get £50 cash back to cushion the blow.

I was on the Sept 2013 Blue tariff but switched to the April 2014 Blue tariff last year as it only worked out at £10 a year more, I am now considering switching to the February 2015 Blue tariff as that is only £28 a year more.

Crispianne3 - where is the cash back available from?

  • Mine works out £128 more than I'm on now. Though in September in all likelyhood I'll be paying more than I'm paying now since there are no cheaper tarrifs for me available right now. I guess thats always the case when your near the end of a fixed dead, thats the period when your at your advantage.

So I need to switch in September anyway its just whether to take the hit now or wait till nearer the time. Almost seems a waste to switch when your still in a fixed period

    hmmmmm
