Best way to refund return postage?

Buyer bought an item, which I duly posted the following day.
Then I get a message saying "why did you ignore my cancellation request, I am annoyed now and will have to return the item to you, please refund all postage costs"
So I never got any cancellation requests but I have accepted the return (I did phone Ebay CS and they could not see any requests to cancel either so they are giving me a credit to cover postage, whatever that may be).
What is the best way to refund return postage?

  • Did the buyer pay for the item in the first place?

I don't get why they'd pay if they wanted to cancel.

Yes buyer paid. I posted the following day then that evening I get an message from buyer "please acknowledge my last email"
He says he cancelled within 20 minutes of paying but neither I nor Ebay CS could see any sign of it!

And I have received the item back - at least he did not claim it was INR!
He sent it back via Parcelforce - really taking the ***!
  • I wouldn't be refunding the full return postage. He should have consulted with you first and used a cheaper service.

    Also, why did he cancel?

Apparently wife told him they already had one.
Whatever the reason I have an irate buyer and this was never going to go my way.
So either I could be difficult and take the neg/low stars or go with it and refund through gritted teeth...
Ebay CS have said they would cover the postage anyway...

Seems he has an account with them as he is a seller.
I don't know how much Ebay will credit my account to cover postage but at the end of the day my account matters to me more than a stupid buyer!

I would refund what I had paid in the first place to send it to him.

At least you're not out of pocket if ebay are covering that expense but what a PITA!

    Agreed!
Aren't buyers told to send back tracked? Item cost me £2.90 to post to him 1st class

Ask him for the receipt for payment for the returns postage, explain that Ebay can see you didn't get the return and they are paying it.
