Hi all,
We are getting our own first house soon. I have a few questions regarding this. Is there anyway to use a cashback site to get cashback if we are not switching?
Also we have very little credit. I've moved here from the states a year ago and we have been staying with parents saving up.
The house we're looking at has PAYG meters. I'm hoping to switch these out for standard meters.
I'm looking for advice on this. My best idea to go about this is to go with EDF as they seem to be doing free meter switches with no credit checks. I'm going to call them tomorrow to confirm this.
Is they wont agree to give me a standard meter based on credit I'm thinking about enquiring about a deposit paid in advance to ensure that we can have these as I'm hoping we will get it back after a year and it will save us money.
Anyone else have any advice opinions or ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I'm in the same position as you and have been thinking the same:
1. which provider is best when starting from scratch? I won't be "switching" from another provider.
2. The new EDF Blue Feb 2015 fix - is this the best deal for a first floor maisonette? 1 person occupancy, 2 bedrooms, good insulation (could be better), gas central heating at 18 degrees evenings and weekends, gas stove, electric oven, paying monthly direct debit, Hampshire.
Better deals out there? Ways to find best deals?

PPM's cost the same as the supplier's Standard tariff. So about 6% more than an online discount tariff on a credit meter. It's an urban myth that they're much more expensive-you just notice what you are paying!
So paying a first year deposit or paying for a meter switch may not be the cheapest option.
From the day you move in you are in a deemed contract with the existing suppliers. You can't commence a switch until you have registered for an account with them.
Since it's a new account, then yes, you can use cashback sites. So I don't understand your comment 'if we are not switching"?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
- credit check concerns ?
- most / all 1st time customers will be checked
- O/P appears concerned with a fail
- if they do fail, it will continue as a PAYG as an alternative to disconnecting their energy supplyDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Hi guys,
Yeah I'm worried about a credit check. I'm got nothing bad on my credit just I don't have much history as I've only been in the country just over a year.
I've read that EDF do not do credit checks. I've called EDF and confirmed this. They advised me that the house currently has PPM from Eon. they've advised that I need to contact Eon to get the meters reset and activated in my name then start the transfer process with EDF.
I'm going to get it going with Eon and make sure I don't get locked in a contract them try to switch using a comparison site. I'm not sure how to arrange getting the meters switched while using a comparision site. I think I'll call again and ask if I can go through a comparison site (to get cash back) and then call and request for the meters to be switched.
I'm going to go for the EDF Blue tariff for the long term lock in, no switching fees, and the already low prices. :money:0 -

Others might know better, my understanding is credit obviously requires a credit check. The below from EDF .. ..
Once we have received your signed contract (this includes contracts sent through the internet or agreed over the phone), we will look to carry out a credit check and decide whether the type of tariff and payment arrangements you have chosen are correct. If the information you provide under the contract is not complete, correct or clear, we may still begin your supply but only on terms that we consider to be the most appropriate for your situation. If there is a problem with your credit check, or the type of tariff or payment arrangements you have chosen, we will try to solve the problem with you if possible. If we cannot solve the problem, we will tell you and your contract will end automatically on that date.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Hi Base Hunta
EDF are right. Let us know the details when you take over responsibility for the property, including the date and meter readings.
We'll set up an account for you based on this information. We'll also send you payment devices to reset the meters.
Initially, you'll go on our standard prepayment tariff. There are no tie-ins with this product leaving you free to change supplier without penalty.
Hope this is useful Base Hunta. Let me know if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Hi Richie,
I'll call again to confirm though that is what they told me on the phone. I'll get call time date person I spoke with etc and record it. Hell I might even email them and get it in writing so then if anything ever goes the other way I can have something to back me up.
Eon thanks for the reply. I hope to be in touch with your guys soon.0
