hi all im new to the site , back in 2001 - 2004 i was in so much trouble with credit cards accounts banks the whole lot thousands in debt... my wife and i had no alternative but to go into an IVA to which all our credit went into default etc etc as you would expect, hence the tsb kicked us out of there bank and we joined the nationwide with what i was lead to believe was a basic bank account for wages to go in and direct debits to come out off .. in 2007 i left the nationwide and went to the halifax as i got a current account off them at the same time i remortgaged my home and cleared all my debts , got a better job etc etc things got much better and know were well back on track .The problem i have now is nationwide are saying that i actually had a CURRENT ACCOUNT and i owe them £37 (laughable) which is now become a delinquent account. NOW my point is there is know way on this earth when i walked in nationwide branch back then id of got a current account , so now in 2013 i have this on my file which im told shouldnt be on there at all as it wasnt a current account it had zero credit facilitys and hence shouldnt be on my credit file in the first place ... anybody any advice as to how i can get this resolved and removed off my credit file as nationwide wont do it of there own backs .. ps ive paid the £37 as soon as i found out i owed it them

Make sure the £37 is indeed all you owe them - -- it could well be there is still a few pennies of interest to come, so you'd be starting to rack up a debt again. Close the account, make sure you have written confirmation your account has now been closed.
Don't bother chasing an explanation for the £37 - - chances are you would have to spend months on end only to find that it was your fault, anyway. Best to just close the account as per above, and to move on.0 -
You believed or you knew?
Back in 2007 Nationwide basic account came with a cash card.
If you had a debit card this just means that you had a current account with zero agreed overdraft and just had to pay more when overdrawn, not that they had to stop you from going overdrawn.
As a side note, I see that 'Shift' keys are in full working order in your keyboard. Why not start using them at the start of each sentence thus making it easier for other people to read you posts?0 -
Definately didnt have a debit card and thats 100% certain as my wife still has the nationwide account and only in the last 18 month has this been upgraded to a debit card facility, as i said with all my defaults and a IVA at the time i wouldnt of been given a current account id of failed the initial credit check. All money is paid back to them and i owe nothing , account was closed back in 2010.0

Sorry if not totally clear the account was sorted back in 2010 i shut it down and was told i owed the £37 and i paid it , clossed the account and thought know more about it. fast forward to 2013 and i do a credit expert check to further my business needs ( accounts for my business materials ) i find this old delinquent account which was the cash card nationwide account which there telling me was a current account , im not complaining about the amount owed i paid it and thought that was that its just ive now been told that this should not be on my credit history file at all as it wasn't a credit account.
So on my file its got an entry of delinquent info of this payment owing to them then settled after 3 months in arrears , so as off today its settled but it stays on your file for six years after the settlement date .
And i dont believe it was a current account hence shouldn't be on my credit file.0 -
Seems you owed money to a bank/Building Society, and they decided to make that fact known to the credit reference agencies. Nothing you can do about this.
The only way not to have debt recorded against you is not to have any debt.0 -
And i dont believe it was a current account hence shouldn't be on my credit file.
Debts are registered on a credit file the source has no bearing.
Utility companies are now signing up with Experian. To register delinquent accounts.
Very similar to the way business accounts have been run for many years. As no business wants to deal with a bad payer. Chasing debts is time consuming and costly.0 -
Experian and credit expert tend to disagree with this fact , they have lodged appeals against nationwide and im awaiting there findings, they both inform me cash card / savings simple accounts should not be on your CREDIT file , i have an instant saver with halifax which isnt on my file, gas / electric mobile phones etc are in essence a credit account you only pay for what you use you dont pay up front for these so if you fall behind then yes i agree it should be logged..
My initial question was for advice on further action i can take if any , i know and nationwide must know i didnt have a current account or even qualify for a current account at that time i think this was just there way of putting one on me , and for 3 years 6 months i new nothing about this its only recently I've asked for a credit account at a supplier and this has come to light, i have no debts at all only my mortgage .... I learnt my lesson i dont want credit loans cards etc i save for what i have/want now.0 -
You are mistaken. Companies can, and do, report your debts to CRAs. There is no "safe" debt.0
-
Yes i agree a debt should be recorded on CRA but i know i sound like im repeating myself it wasnt a debt its a charge they have recorded against me as unpaid over a 3 month period, all paid up and settled , its recorded as delinquent not defaulted..0
