Renting a flat when your spouse is unemployed (only one household income)

Hi,
my wife has a very good income and is capable of supporting us both, and I'm currently unemployed. We've picked out a flat, and we expect to be asked for employment references tomorrow.
We obviously won't lie about my job, but we're worried they might reject us and keep our "holding fee" if they feel they've been misled.
Is it generally accepted that a married couple might only have one income?
And more importantly, how might we "phrase" how we reveal our current situation to the letting agency to make it sound like we can still afford it.
Does the letting agency have a right to see my wife's paycheck?
thanks so much!

They will do a credit reference on both of you as you will both be living there. As for how they work out if you can afford it.......they might do some sort of budget sheet, every agent is different. Don't worry about your current situation, if your partner is working and happy to pay the rent til you get yourself sorted then there's no issue.0
