ASDA SmartPrice corned beef was withdrawn not long ago for being over the 1% limit for horse DNA, and now the new stock is being withdrawn for having 4 parts per million of phenylbutazone.

Very little corned beef is made in South America now. The meat processing plants in the famous Fray Bentos (which is actually not in Argentina, but just over the border in Uruguay) closed in 1979.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

Princes lean corned beef comes from Brazil, don't know how likely this is to have horsemeat though.
Princes normal corned beef however comes from france so bound to be dodgy.

We eat this in corned beef hash every two or three weeks and I've got a tin of it in the cupboard now, but I don't have the receipt for it any more so it will probably go in the bin unless my neighbour's cat wants it. We'll eat pretty much owt here, but there's a limit to the appeal of that stuff even before you know it's been fortified with added horse and vetinary drugs.

You don't need a receipt it will just be put on a giftcard no problem

I know i've got a couple of tins in the cupboard that have been there at least a year. Surely that can't be contaminated the story would have come out long ago. It must be only newer stock that there's a problem with.

Of course the bute shouldn't be there, but I think it is worth putting the risk (very small) to human health in proportion.

I've (knowingly) eaten horse in France and found it to be absolutely delicious. It's like beef, but milder and sweet. I've a lady friend who has a second home in France and she tells me that it's openly on sale in butchers and supermarkets. I'm tempted to ask her to get me a pack of mince and couple of steaks.

However, the French aren't the world leaders in horse consumption. The Chinese eat the most by far and Italy is the European champion. In fact, some say that a truly authentic Bolognese sauce should be made with horse.

PS. I would probably be at greater risk driving to my local ASDA to return my tin.
