Light (in weight) 'British' items

So, I'm sending a little food parcel abroad and she loves all things British. Due to the extortionate price of postage I want to keep it as light as possible, so far I have got tea (very light) and popcorn. I'm thinking about getting some dried mushrooms too as they are very light

Does anyone have any other ideas of things which are British but also light in weight.

Cadbury's chocolate is one, a friend of my aunt's who lives in the usa always missed cadbury's! Maybe treat size ones if they are lighter.

Lovely idea but I can envisage several problems with it.

First off, light, fragile objects are more likely to be damaged unless packed really well, which may defeat money -saving, as the packaging may be heavier than the item.

Sending popcorn to the USA is akin to sending coals to Newcastle because it's an American staple, not something truly British.

On the other hand the tea is a great idea. You could develop that as a theme and send other tea-related things like teaspoons, tea strainer and tea-themed tea towels.

Matalan is doing 2 for £2 on teatowels at the moment and one of the ones I bought recently is quite cute

Chocolate, if sent airmail, may arrive in less than great condition since the milk solids can separate.

Here's the Parcelforce webpage on sending food to the USA

    Hope that helps

Instead of sending blocks of cadburys maybe think of sending cadbury hot chocolate tub and also bourneville cocoa powder. These items are sorely missed by friends and family I know that have moved overseas. You can buy a lot of british products in America now, and also worldwide.

you need to check if there are forbidden food items for the country you are sending to.

Thanks, it's not to America, it's to Germany if that makes any difference?

To Germany.. then any food you send bought here should be fine as long as not fresh food. Also shouldn't cost more than 125 EUR in total.

I wouldn't send cocoa to Germany, they can get really good cocoa from their next door neighbour, Holland.

What about biscuits like jaffa cakes - can you get these in Germany? Green & Black's chocolate bars?
