epson printer not feeding paper

My old printer (11 yrs old) epson stylus photo 895 - wheels turning but not feeding the paper - says paper jam - but none - was able to feed thro' a thick card paper - but won't accept normal paper - ink cartridges are now on far left and won't move to the centre - so can't open to replace inks....?

Borrowed a hp deskjet 990cxi printer - downloaded s/ware etc - wheels turning but won't feed paper and now (strange coincidence?) cartridges moved to the left (as above) - so cannot open remove to replace inks....???

Considering buying a new printer from following choices (used only for occasional printing - not photos). I usually buy compatible inks from ebay. All help/advice/tips greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

There's plenty of sites with reasonably priced cartridges for Epson, including Ebay.

More concern is why both printers have locked up.

Try unplugging the printers, reboot and plug the printer back in then turn it on. The computer should find the printer and reload the drivers.
