Paypal and selling phones abroad

Sorry if this has been discussed before ...
I have just sold a phone to someone in Italy and the lady in the PO has told me that RM do not insure phones going overseas (fair enough) and because of that Paypal will never side with the seller in a Item Not Received dispute even when a tracking number is provided and signature obtained.
The lady also said not to give them the tracking number as they will try to reverse the funds once they know you have sent it.
I know there are always risks involved with selling phones, especially overseas. I have taken the serial and IMEI number, photographed it on the scales etc. I did a buy-it-now with Best Offers and chose a lower offer from some with 400+ feedback and long history. So I guess it's just fingers crossed now.

I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be

You are very brave and I hope you did do your research. However your Post office lady fed you some very odd notions about how paypal work!
Along with many people I block Italy from all my auctions due to the real issues they have with postage, and I would not sell a mobile overseas at all.
However, if you have sent it fully tracked and insured *and* it updates to show delivery then you will be fine against any INR opened by the buyer. Obviously if it does get lost then you have no claim with RM and no amount of photogrpahing on scales or other strange things will get you your money back.
As for the IMEI number, that is always a good idea, except that blocked phones often still work overseas, but too late now to worry about it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks Soolin.
The lady at the PO said that Italy has terrible postage system but that if an item is Tracked from the UK then its usually fine.
I checked the buyers feedback left for others and feedback received and he has bought a few phones in the past few months and left positive feedback for all.
Should I provide the tracking number? Are there any positive or negatives for doing so?I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be0 -

It makes very little difference , all that matters now is that phone arrives.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
