MSE News: More SSE customers could claim mis-selling cash

I contacted SSE because I was sold a Fixed Price Tariff until 2014 for gas and electric. At the time of the offer, SSE said it was CHEAPER to combine both.
I found out later I'll need to pay £50 to SSE to escape from this "deal" so I'm now locked in until it expires because paying this will mean no overall payment decrease to any new provider I join over a year (saving say only £2.80 per month max with another provider).
I went to this 2014 tariff in summer 2102 and my DD went up immediately by 40%! At the time I complained that this was not acceptable and they reduced the DD. My Gas and Electric have since gone into arrears. We have not used ANY more gas or electric than usual. So, clearly there was a significant price increase in this new fixed rate tariff, not least because of the 9% price rise, yet they claimed originally it would be cheaper. The SSE Rep advised, "This should not have happended. I am sorry".
SSE advised I go to this 2 year fixed tariff only 2 weeks prior to the SSE 9% price rise (15-Oct-2012). They did not advise of the impending price rise at the time of taking up this new tariff (allegedly customer service reps are not made aware SSE advised me). So I have to allegedly assume SSE Directors and the CEO must have known there was an impending 9% price increase and tried to fix customers into deals for 2 or more years. This can only be deemed sharp business practice.
I'll wait to see what SSE say.0 -

Well, if you can;t even remmebr how you signed up to SSE, you;ve hardly got a valid reason for a claim, have you?
If you were ripped off, you;d remember it.
So stop being a parasite0 -
natsplatnat wrote: »Have just registered my complaint with SSE (I was a Southern Electric customer for dual fuel). My complaint is that the door-step sellers beat my existing monthly payment for the first six months and then my payment went from £45 to £112 a month!! I did query this at the time and was told that the £45 was obviously not enough to cover the amount of gas/electricity I was using! Being financially naive / uneducated at the time I just accepted this. The funny thing is that I am only paying £57 a month (duel fuel) with my existing provider!!
Go figure!
So, I received a letter from SE. Apparently they saved me £16.41 in the time I was with them. I will be writing back to see how they got to this figure... as I don't....
Previous supplier 12 x £46 = £552
SE (6 x £45) + (6 x £112) = £942
I am only paying £684 a year now!!!
Am I the one missing a rather large point here????start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225
end = Mon 28th Sept 2015 DEBT FREE!
I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!0 -
After a few phone calls from SSE Reps offering cheap £20 offers for unscrupulous misselling practices, I'm happy they've now accepted that what they were doing was wrong and just poor business practice - the SSE Rep actually agreed with me on this. I received £80 which is fair. However, I do intend to shop around when my current fixed deal runs out though, because the £50 early cancellation fee holds me in presently and no other provided wants to pay the £50 early exit charge for me to join them.0

curious to know how your claim has progressed with SSE
we moved to SSE via Marks and Spencers in \October 2011 on the basis that we would save approx £100 per annum on dual fuel scheme not a big saving but better than nothing, at the end of march 2013 we had a bill for just under £1000 for gas underpaid My husband called them and agreed to increas our standing order from £100 to £150 for gas only to pay off the underpayment, i felt that we should have queried it with them and complained, however we had a really cold winter in scotland and had heating on more than usual. my husband died in July this year and i have had to look at finances, in July i saw the headlines in press about the "marks and spencers mis selling scandal" and decided to call the company . the have phoned me several times and feel bamboozled by tarrifs and meter reading they have offered £50 compensation which i refused, have now called back suggesting that i can pay off the overpayment over 4 years at £19 per month andoffered me £100 off the debt,
just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience and if you think their offer is a good one0 -
just a quick update on this
sse have now offered £230 discretionary refund against my bill
which i have accepted
so it is worth negotiating with them if you are in this postion0
