credit card novice

Hi, I was looking for a bit of help with credit cards. I have two cards, one old one which I never use anymore and a Tesco one that I use frequently and always payIn full which I have had a few years. I will soon be needing to make a larger purchase which I will not be able to pay off straight away. I was looking at getting a new credit card with a 0% on purchases deal to do this. Firstly is that a good idea or is there a better way to do it?

I was also wondering, how many cards is it ok to have/can you have?

Will it affect my credit score?

Can I apply for another Tesco one or will i need to cancel my current one to do this, or will it need to go with another company/bank?

Thanks for your help.

This depends on the limits, other credit available and on your income.

It will, but the effect can be both positive and negative.

Usually you have to cancel first and wait before applying to the same card: http://www.stoozing.com/cards.php
