Hello everyone.
Hoping someone can advise me, quick cantor through whats happened.
We used to have pre payment meters, when we changed back to direct debit ( they fitted new meters) my husband noticed our electric was quite high, we were with British Gas at the time but have been through numerous firms since.
We have lagged, cavity walled, changed to energy light bulbs swith off at the wall and still it's high.
Our electric is the same summer and winter, we have just checked it with EON and they said our bill is £364 for 11 weeks. The only time anyone has admitted anything is when British Gas said we were one economy 7 which we never ask for.
When we go on comparison sites and put in our annual usage, it always comes back at less than what we are paying.
Please help.

What do you mean it is coming back less than you are paying?
Comparison sites work best if you input your annual consumption in kWh and it will then give you the annual cost of that consumption.
If you have an E7 meter then you will be charged on an E7 rate unless you have specifically requested otherwise and the supplier agreed0 -
Hello
No they said they took us off E7, we are paying more than they say we should but they insist there's nothing wrong with the meter. I don't cook with electric and we do everything to bring it down, just don't understand it.

Nor do I. Your post makes no sense to me at all, I'm afraid.
Who took you off E7? Why?
Who said you are paying more than you should be? Why?
The meter records your consumption and you should be paying for that consumption in accordance with the tariff you are on.0 -
Thank you for looking We'll sort it out
Thanks again

Hi Kim
I'd do as Wywth says and concentrate on your usage in terms of kWh. Take regular meter readings and build up a picture of your ongoing usage.
Sounds as though you've already taken a lot of steps to cut back. We may, though, be able to help with more ideas.
Have a chat with our specialist Energy Efficiency team. Tell them about your property and appliances. They'll be happy to suggest ways you may be able to cut back further.
Ask for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of good advice to help save energy.
Check out our website, too. Particularly, the 'Interactive House' and 'Energy Menu.' More good tips here.
With Economy 7 meters, depending on the region, you need to use approx between 50 and 55 per cent of usage during the cheaper, off peak night hours to benefit. If you're not using this amount then you'll more than likely be better off on a single rate tariff.
Even though you've an Economy 7 meter, we can still charge you on a single rate tariff if you're not using enough night time kWh to benefit. We just add the night and day readings together. From your post, it looks as though we're doing this.
You're doing the right thing in looking at all your options via the independent comparison sites. As you're doing, inputting kWh is the best way to go.
Also, make sure your bills are to accurate readings and not estimates. Have any recent bills been estimated? If they have, it may be a catch up bill to accurate readings is distorting the picture.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction Kim. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Hello Malc
Thank you very much for your reply, we have as you suggested spoken to someone at E.ON about reducing cost.
We've not got E7 now, British Gas put us on it by mistake when we first went from pre payment meters back to paying by direct debit and they installed new meters.
Thank you again
