Windows 7 RTM End Of Support

http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/springboard/archive/2013/02/14/windows-7-rtm-end-of-support-is-right-around-the-corner.aspx
Windows 7 RTM (with no service pack) will no longer be supported as of April 9th, 2013

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/help/what-does-end-of-support-mean
What does it mean if my version of Windows is no longer supported?

An unsupported version of Windows will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update. These include security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, which can steal your personal information. Windows Update also installs the latest software updates to improve the reliability of Windows—new drivers for your hardware and more.

If you haven't already, install SP1 to continue receiving support for Windows 7.

Where's the panic? All the information you need is there if you read the post.

The same people who disable updates forever because their next door neighbour's brother's son once installed a service pack for XP and it broke something.

In your thread title "Windows 7 RTM End Of Support", which at first appearance might suggest Windows 7 support to be dropped, that's where :rotfl:

I did read your post (thank you for that) but the first thing I read unsurprisingly was the thread title and whilst I didn't panic I'm sure some will read this as Windows 7 support being stopped.

RTM = Release To Manufacturing = without service pack.

The thread title is factually accurate.

Yes of course, I'm a bit dim witted about such things.

I guess it is pretty common knowledge that Windows 7 RTM refers to pre SP1 editions.

Should probably also add that there is a platform update for Windows 7 which is almost but not quite SP2.

Microsoft have been keeping it quiet outside of the business world, as they want home users to go to Windows 8 instead

    nevermind, it's on Windowsupdate now.

This update improves the features and performance of the following components:
    Direct2D
    DirectWrite
    Direct3D
    Windows Imaging Component (WIC)
    Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform (WARP)
    Windows Animation Manager (WAM)
    XPS Document API
    H.264 Video Decoder
    JPEG XR codec

Doesn't seem too much to get excited about?

Although of course the clock is ticking on the 13 year old XP, in under 12 months it will be completely unsupported in any form!
