Renring - Broken shower clip. fair wear and tear.

Hi there. I hope someone can advise me. I rent a property where a small plastic clip securing the shower to the wall has broken. I've no idea how it happened as I think I was actually out when it happened!

This has caused the shower unit to drop by half an inch and caused some of the housing where the shower pole goes into the ceiling to come away.

The landlord says it's my responsibility to pay for the repair, but surely this comes under fair wear and tear? Are plastic clips perishable? I would have thought so.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Jonny.

I find it hard to believe a shower clip 'just broke' by itself.

I would suspect damage unless you can somehow prove that the clip was faulty/badly manufactured and so 'broke' by itself as a result of old age (wear and tear).

If as I suspect, you are responsible for the clip (£5 for a new one from B&Q?), you wouldalso be responsible for any consequential damage (eg the housing into the ceiling coming away).

Again, not a big, difficult, or expensive job to fix unless perhpas there is plasterwork damage too.

Just pop down to B&Q and fix it all...
  • Hi. It actually did break on its own. I think it was worn out and therefore not the fault of the tenant?
