Being Rejected For Opening A Current Ac

I applied for a current account with Abbey Nationaleing rejected for opening a current account recently but had been rejected. i know my credit history is quite poor but i have regular money comming in and a saving accounts with them that is regularly active (but has no money in there to save) could this be because i have a poor credit rating? i thought because of my circumstance's i would only be turned down for credit. not a credit card, and i thought you could only get turned down from opening a account because of some sort of fraud in your history (which i dont have).
If i have been turned down for trying to open a account my credit will have to be really bad.....right?
Then why have i been accepted for a capital 1 credit card?

OH had probs getting an a/c as he had NO credit history etc. Make sure you are on the electoral roll, use your capital one card carefully for a bit to gain some history - try for a basic account (cashcard only) and then try to get upgraded in a few months.
Also - try NatWest - they are much better."It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."

What about opening a basic account for a bit and then apply for a normal current account? I'm guessing the idea would be to have the basic account with the bank you want you current account with."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

Each lender has different criteria - your credit record is only one thing they look at. Some look at your salary, some look at your occupation, some even look at your postcode!
Why not speak to Abbey to see if they can tell you more. There may have been a misunderstanding, which you can easily clear up. At the moment, it's the computer that has said no - try talking to a real personWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

If your credit history is quite poor this is probably the reason you have been rejected. You may have to do as has already been suggested and put up with a basic account until you build a credit history.
The Capital One card you have is probably the credit builder one which has an APR 29.6 or 29.9%. If you ever use it make sure it is paid off in full each month as nobody with their right head on would ever take on credit at that rate of interest.
