Credit Card Surcharges

I thought that these were not allowed from last weekend, but the DVLA still want a £2.50 surcharge on car tax renewals.

Not only is it still on their website, but their telephone payment system also provides for it.

Have the DVLA got some sort of exemption from the new rules, or are they just a bit behind in updating their systems?

Anybody know?

The average license is now £195 (yours might be higher or lower). That means they are charging 1.28%, hardly extortionate and most likely what they are being charged by the CC, which is permitted under the regs.

You might have a case if you were giving them £10 and they were still charging £2.50 as it would then be 25%.

Renewed my tax on the second car last night, tax £20 surcharge would have been £2.50.

My case exactly, except that I paid by debit card, as reported in the first thread.
