Car Warranty Policies

Options
Hello Everyone, this is my first time on the board so forgive me if I'm asking something already previously raised.

I'm considering the purchase of a Rover 75, though as the company is no more the car is being purchased from an non-franchised dealer. The car will come with a limited warranty but I would like to be covered with a warranty policy that I may purchase myself. Does anyone have any views or, better still, experience with such a product? I don't want to throw £250 - £350 down the drain.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this post and thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Regards

Peter

Well, I had a policy from Warranty Direct. It was fine till I claimed anything. However, when I claimed for engine seize (following oil leaking from engine) they refused to pay out saying car was not serviced properly. However, when I showed them my service documents they agreed that they would cover me based on this.

I heard that they do pay on some occassions but majority of cases are turned down.

Naturally I'm going to cancel them - my local mechanic says they rarely pay and warranty is not worth the paper.

You never know unless you claim!

  • Tried to claim twice from Warranty Direct:confused: . Refused on both occasions. It's what they DON'T put in the policy that catches you out. Put your £300 quid in a saving account for breakdowns.

I have had one once from the CSMA.

The car developed a bad leak from the power steering, the policy said oil leaks weren't covered.

I claimed and they paid up to replace the whole steering rack without any question - more than covered the cost of the policy.

However, I have not bothered since with these policies, I quit while I was ahead !

That's the point - they statistically analyze thousands of faults in several cars, then carefully excludes which are most likely to fail.

    Thus they make their profits!

We bought a used car and had RAC Warranty with it and renewed it for a further two years (£18 a month). The policy was very comprehensive and I had no illusions as to what or wasn't covered - good paperwork. We made one claim and it was settled without any problems. Would recommend.

My only gripe was RAC would not pay for the costs of diagnosing what the problem was , only the repair. Fair enough, I s'pose...
    Reassuringly expensive
