Energy Switching question
My Scottish Power capped tariff runs out on 31st May - I have been offered an online energy saver 21 tariff which is the best that SP can offer (they claim it to be 7.5% below their standard tariff) :
The charges for Online Energy Saver 21 for Gas including VAT are 7.132p for first 670kWh used each quarter and 3.680p for all remaining kWh.
The Charges for Online Energy Saver 21 for Electricity including VAT are 22.277p for first 225kWh used each quarter and 12.000p for all day remaining kWh.
Are these figures OK in the current market ?
and I assume that, since nothing has been said - there is no tie-in ?

Wait until next month, and then use a comparison site to find the best deal for you0 -
I thought that energy companies were obliged to put you on the cheapest deal now ?
I received the email below from SP:
"The current service package on your account is Capped Price Energy June 2013. The package ends on 31 May 2013.Your service package will automatically be changed to Standard Monthly Direct Debit from 1 April 2013.You can opt for Online Energy Saver 21 service package. In this service package prices will remain 7.5% lower than our standard gas and electricity prices for the payment method until 31st May 2014 and if your prices increase we will give you at least 30 days notice and you will be entitled to cancel the contract."
Which implies that if I do nothing - I am not put on the cheapest deal - but that I will be left on standard tariff ?
Plus - it still does not mention any tie-in - only the fact that, if the prices do increase, I can cancel the contract...... ?0 -

Incorrect
Correct ... so follow the advice given in my previous post
Exactly the same thing happened to me and with Scottish Power too. My contract ran out and they put me on a standard tariff. I was none too pleased as I thought they were obliged to put me on a cheaper tariff. No.
According to the bloke in customer service, not until I call them and tell them to change my tarriff! The onus is on the consumer to take the initiative. They've not put me on the cheapest now however but a 'competitive' one.
They have said I can switch at anytime if I am not happy.
I'm not sure if that is true...0
