I'm resurrecting a old pc to see if worth keeping, i.e upgrading RAM
and am a little confused to what crucial suggests I buy. Also confused by crucial scan on my main pc.

Old PC
results from PCWizard

crucial scan
our D845GRG System Specs
Scan Id: 1DFD000A31D926C3
Memory:
DDR PC3200, DDR PC2700
Memory Type: DDR PC3200, DDR PC2700, DDR (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Currently Installed Memory: 512MB
Total Memory Slots: 2
Available Memory Slots: 0

crucial scan suggests
1GB DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 128Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT12864Z40B
or
1GB DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT12864Z335

So PCWizard says it has PC-2100 and PC-2300 - how does this relate to crucial suggestions PC3200 and PC2700. Which should I be looking to purchase?

I'm doubting crucial results because it does not seem to recognise all RAM from my main PC. It says I have 2GB installed but I only have 1GB.

No, the Crucial scan says you have 512MB installed, as 2 x 256MB modules. To go up to 2GB you need to replace both modules with 1GB ones.
The other scan says the same.
Whether it's worth it will depend what OS you are running-presumably XP? You'll certainly see some gain going up to 1GB, relatively little from another 1GB on top.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes, for the first PC I agree with what you said, scan says 2 x 256MB. Yes, it is XP and I would like to go up to 1GB. My question was more about what to buy - 'So PCWizard says it has PC-2100 and PC-2300 - how does this relate to crucial suggestions PC3200 and PC2700. Which should I be looking to purchase?
    Edit: obviously cheapest option preferred

It is the other PC I'm querying the crucial scan for - It says I have 2GB but I only have 1GB.

    What's the motherboard?

The Crucial scan should advise what you CAN fit. The other scan will advise what you HAVE fitted. (I presume).

DDR2100 is from the family of DDR RAM. Any RAM from that family should fit and work. That particular family went up to PC3200.
After that you move to DDR2, which is not compatible with your PC.
So, Crucial are just recommending what they have in stock. If they had PC2100, they would recommend that too. :)

Here is an alternative stockist with all three types in stock and likely cheaper than Crucial.
