If he's in hospital a decent set of pyjamas. I think a nice photo will be lovely, and if you dont get it printed off in England you can do it in Northern Ireland.

    Hope he gets better soon

Maybe you could get him a cheap mp3 player to listen to so he can retreat into his own world for half an hour or so

I have no idea what to get for my Dad, he is in hospital right now quite ill, I live in England and he is in NIreland, I am going over this weekend to see him and desperately need inspiration so I can leave a gift with my Mum for him as I can't go over again next weekend for Fathers Day.

He is fairly immobile at the minute and on oxygen, not eating much, doesn't read except the paper. Loves golf but I doubt he will play again to be hinest, and certainly not any time soon. He has every glossy golf bok under the sun. Thats about it. All I can think of is a framed photo of the grandkids. Is that too lame ?? They are only 4 and 2 and not capable of making too much. And of course noi time between now and Friday when I go. aaarrghh what shall I do ? What do immobile non eating non reading people in hospital need or do ?

My FIL has just come out of hospital after being in for 2 months... he enjoyed reading the Jeremy Clarkson books hubby took in - easy to read and easy to put down. A photo is a super idea and your little people can easily put pen/paint to paper - I know the pictures that our little people made (6,4&2 -so not perfect artists yet!) were up near him wheather he was in Intensive care, high dependancy or on the ward.

    Best wishes to you both:o

A few years ago I stopped looking at Fathers Day gifts for things that my Dad would like purely because he has everything.

I've had flowers delivered to him a few times now - which given that he's not used to this is always something that puts a huge smile on his face.

This year I've decided on helium balloons - which would also be a nice surprise for anyone in hospital.

I'm also considering getting an old goat LOL from Oxfam for him.

I'm sure that a photo of the grandkids would be something he would treasure - not a lame idea at all. Another suggestion for anyone who has a bed bound relative - and apologies if I am being obvious here - would be a really good electric razor. When my DD was ill in hospital it was very important to him that he remained clean shaven, and hugely important to his dignity, and it can be very hard to achieve a wet shave on a hospital ward.

In answer to my original query as OP, I am thrilled with the offer of a photobook for £1 originally posted by beerbellyphil999 on the Grabbit board ( sorry, don't know how to link to a post!)
and have ordered one for my OH on behalf of our son.
  • How about writing/typing out some 'Odd-job' vouchers?

This voucher can be redeemed for 1 (one) car wash.
This voucher can be redeemed for 1 (one) shoe polish. etc

Decided to get my OH a Top Gear magazine subscription using Tesco clubcard deals. The present goes on for a year ( longer than a few cans last!) and didn't actually cost me anything.

My dad spent a month in hospital and as a present my brother bought him a cheap MP3 player and then downloaded lots of the old comedy radio shows that dad likes (things like 'sorry I haven't a clue', 'dad's army', etc) - he just got them free from filesharing sites and preloaded them onto the player. My dad was really thankful for this as it cheered him up and also meant he could listen to it at night when he found it hard to sleep because of the noise of the ward.

The other thing he really liked when he was in hospital was if we bought in snacks and treats because he wasnt so keen on the hospital food!

I know its really boring but I got my dad chocs and beer and I also got one of the £1 photobooks that was on the grabbit board, the photos are of his 60th birthday that he had recently :)

He has everything already, including gadgets that he can't understand, clothes he never has chance to wear, books that he never has time to read etc...!
