Fathers Day Inspiration - what do you chaps really want?

Hello, I have searched and don't think there is a thread going on about this - apologies if I am mistaken. Fathers Day will be upon us next month,(June 17th) and I don't believe it is given anywhere near as much attention as Mothers Day. I'm sure I am not alone in finding men very difficult to buy for, but more so when the gift is meant to reflect the feelings of my LOs. Seeing as it falls in a week when I have 5 family birthdays  including my 2 lovely children I am traditionally skint at this time of year. So some inspiration on how we ladies could help our kiddies show their Dads some appreciation, without breaking the bank, would be very gratefully appreciated!

This has been mentioned on all the boards but there are still free tickets to Donnington I know it is in September but if you live near why not have fathers day plus a birthday, anniversary, just got a job, passed a driving test anything and make a big event of it.

    just a thought.

  • On the Days Out board there is a posting saying that Fathers go Free to an engine museum in Poynton Cheshire. I am intending to print the note off and leaving it strategically lieing around as I think it sounds a great way to spend the day.

Think the URL for the museum is https://www.enginemuseum.org

I hope they take the hint!

How do men stand generally on , for want of a better word, sentimental presents? For example would something like a childishly handmade photoframe be appreciated more than a six pack of beer? Apologies if I sound sexist - I really don't mean too!

  • I was in Matalan last night and got mine sorted - a Tshirt bearing the phrase

    "Real Dads don't read instructions"

Perfect for mine - and i'm sure a few other Dads out there too!

Best part - i'd already decided it was perfect when i spotted the price - only £4!!!

I got my husband a "traditional shave" voucher for his birthday.
Hot towels, cut throat razor, 40 minutes of pampering.

    Mine cost £20.

Locations I've found are Hungerford and London.

If you have more money to spend you could go for a massage.

It might not appeal to all men but some men definitely do like pampering.

If he's has everything and is an animal lover then why not sponsor a dog or a donkey (or any other animal).

You can visit these animals and the money goes to good cause.

Continuing the charity theme, here's an excellent DVD which isn't expensive and also makes a contribution towards a good cause.

I have no idea what to get for my Dad, he is in hospital right now quite ill, I live in England and he is in NIreland, I am going over this weekend to see him and desperately need inspiration so I can leave a gift with my Mum for him as I can't go over again next weekend for Fathers Day.

He is fairly immobile at the minute and on oxygen, not eating much, doesn't read except the paper. Loves golf but I doubt he will play again to be hinest, and certainly not any time soon. He has every glossy golf bok under the sun. Thats about it. All I can think of is a framed photo of the grandkids. Is that too lame ?? They are only 4 and 2 and not capable of making too much. And of course noi time between now and Friday when I go. aaarrghh what shall I do ? What do immobile non eating non reading people in hospital need or do ?

If he's in hospital a decent set of pyjamas. I think a nice photo will be lovely, and if you dont get it printed off in England you can do it in Northern Ireland.

    Hope he gets better soon
