No claims discount is a discount on the premium, not the value of the premium.
Much will depend on which insurance company is involved.
My own premiums have either remained static, or fallen.... despite windscreen claims. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
A tip for the future, don't use the insurer's windscreen helpline number (unless in an emergency), contact your nearest Autoglass direct.
This is what I always do. I normally take the car to the local Autoglass place, they fix or replace it and I just sign the paperwork and pay the money required.
I think given the story in this thread I'll continue doing it that way rather than using the insurance number! :eek:0 -
Would suggest you don't even contact Autoglass. We use an independent who is approved by the insurance co. (when we still had windscreen cover). Much better service and still only paid excess and vat (company insurance)0

Lesson learnt from this situation. Will never contact Autoglass again. Will use my own kit from now on.

DirectLine's windscreen cover is a separate addon for your policy and is stated on the schedule that you do not lose any no claims as Autoglass is their approved repairer.
saying that, I've had a chip repaired by them, for which Autoglass took £75 from my bank instead of £10 and despite numerous phone calls, they still won't pay it back.
I too am at the point of considering to report them to Trading Standards as they blatantly take more money than they should do.0 -
Daughter had a cracked windscreen. Autoglass wanted three times what a local company charged to replace the windscreen. They have to pay for their advertising somehow.Je suis sabot...0

Hi Steve
This is what I was wary of. I phoned them up and they reassured me they would simply refund the £65. I said why not just take £10 to begin with, then charge the extra £65 there and then. I'm pretty sure Autoglass have debit/credit card terminals in their vans. No, they insisted the way they do it is by refunding, but that's not right because you could easily end up paying £75 for what is a £10 repair.
In a lot of ways, we were lucky, because the chip didn't need repairing, so they simply refunded the entire amount. However I did call trading standards and they are aware of it, so if you tell them I'm sure they could bring my file up and corroborate your story.
I'd threaten them with trading standards if I was you, see how they respond to that eh?
And people on this forum wondered why I was so concerned in the first place "oh I'm sure they'll just refund you the money without a problem".... yep and if I had wheels I'd be a wagon.0
