Ugly fireplace

  • I don't like any of it, the wallpaper, the fireplace, nor that particular woodburner (although I do like woodburners and have one), but none of them would be a deal breaker and I've certainly seen worse in fireplaces.

Loads of Artex WOULD be a dealbreaker, you haven't got loads of that, have you? :)

I wouldn't change any of it personally and certainly not paint the stone, it's a BU&&er to get off.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

The paper's not my pride & joy. Its the OH who likes it. We got it about 4 or 5 years ago in Harry Corrys.

Thankfully no artex anywhere in the house :)

I'm more than likely going to paint the stone and the wood in a cream shade. I don't care if its hard to take off, who's going to want to take it off for a 'lovely grey stone' fireplace?

I don't think I would risk skimming the stones myself now that I'm going to sell in case I make a total mess of it and have to get a plasterer in. I was googling and a fireplace made of cream stones with cream gaps between. It was some big company, fireplace warehouse or something, they were the first company that came up.

Yes there is central heating. The stove has a back boiler too. The oil heater is there because there's nowhere else to put it, so it might find its way to the garage ;)

When I was looking up how much it cost to remove gas fires, the price was £40.

I wouldn't be a deal breaker for me the fireplace sure its not fantastic but its not horrible either. I be more interested in whole house, location price than a fireplace that can easily be replaced. As for log burner they look nice I have one dont forget there not cheap, fuel is not cheap and you need space for fuel especially seasoned wood 1/3 of a large garage is where I store mine

When I look at a house is mainly if its okay to move in first the have work done later if and when you can afford it.

Having a nice house is a better seller but it can also be a breaker for another similar house which needs some work

Can someone photoshop it so we can get an idea? Maybe dark deep red walls or something.

    White paint on the brick.

    White mantle.

    Light cream rug.

    (Don't forget the twigs!)

Don't look at me - I just tried it in 'paint' and couldn't change one thing. Useless lol!

I think if the rest of the house decor etc is in tune with the fireplace it will look ok and not out of place. I suspect it probably is.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

No its not really in the same style. There's a lot of light colours, all other wood is painted either buttermilk or white.

Would I need to prime or sand the wood before painting? I've got Dulux white one coat gloss.

What about painting the stonework, could I just use white masonry paint? or would I need to put on any products before to prepare the surface?
