Thanks for the update, and I'd love to see the pic!
One of my orchids has produced another flower spike, so that will be 7 months continual flowering for this one.0 -
Oh I am glad i saw this as I had the same question. I also wondered if I need to buy the special orchid compost to re-pot? It is quite pricy and I am all for saving a few pennies!
LIDL sell this in the Spring - way cheaper than from the garden centre. Although it seems only a small bag, you don't need much as you'll only be potting them up 1 or 2 pot sizes. I re-potted 4 this year & had half the bag left over.
I never really liked orchids until somone bought me one as a present, then a friend saw it & bought me another, thinking that I must like them
Then I bought myself the others as mini ones that were reduced in Waitrose. I have to say that the one from M&S has been the most prolific flowerer, then the garden centre one.
I thought that you just threw them away after flowering or kept them as a leafy houseplant until I looked them up & realised that they might just flower again.
I cut down two-thirds of the spent flowering spikes, water sporadically & use a couple of drops of Baby Bio orchid food (bought with the original present a few years ago - lasts ages) once a month unless flowering then I give them it fortnightly. I stand the pot on marbles to increase humidity & when they're not in bud but flowers haven't yet opened, I spritz with tepid water every so often.0 -

Hi Floss2
That's sounds fab, you have definitely got the knack with them. I hope mine do as well as yours. The other orchid, my daughters ,is still to flower. I have been giving it the same treatment and it has produced a few new leaves and lots of roots, hoping the flower stem will be next. I will get round to posting that photo.

Thanks for taking the time for the info Chris25. Some useful points there. I had been wondering where the cheapest place to buy the compost from. I will wait for this as I use Lidl often .:)LIDL sell this in the Spring - way cheaper than from the garden centre. Beautiful orchid!
I have just bought a couple of orchids myself and i'm smitten with their beauty. I do hope to keep them looking good as i'm afraid i've always been a bit rubbish with houseplants

aaaargh, just noticed that on one of my plants, the flowering tip has shriveled - I think probably because of being in a draught from the window lights being left open in the warm evenings!

lovely pic tulip!0 -

Oh no i've been leaving the windows open too, thinking that air flow would be good. I hope it recovers well for you.
I haven't fed my plants and i've had them over a week so shall buy some Baby Bio tomorrow. Thanks for the tips.0
